What is the Seattle Neighborhood Alliance (SNA)? A citywide network of community councils and council-like groups working together to strengthen our organizations, share resources, and support one another.
Is the SNA a political group? No, we just work on connecting, supporting, and sharing information.
What is your focus? The Seattle Neighborhood Alliance is built around two core ideas: networking and capability. Along the way, something else has happened—we’ve become friends.
We help one another by sharing knowledge, experience, and practical, street-smart solutions that make a real difference in our neighborhoods. We’ve hosted sessions on everything from fundraising and increasing event participation to understanding Seattle’s budget process and navigating city government.
One of the greatest strengths of our network is that neighborhoods can turn to one another for help. When a community faces a challenge, others who have already solved similar problems are ready to share ideas, resources, and encouragement. We believe Seattle’s neighborhoods are stronger when we help each other succeed.
No single neighborhood leader has all the answers. But together, as a connected network of community leaders, we have an extraordinary depth of knowledge and experience. By learning from one another, sharing what works, and supporting neighborhoods when they need it most, we strengthen every neighborhood in Seattle.
Who can come? Currently our bigger quarterly events are designed for leaders (officers and committee leads) in the neighborhood councils.

My group can’t make it to this event. Will you have another one? Yes, we meet quarterly.
What type of groups are invited? Mainly groups that work to represent residents in a given area. For some groups this includes businesses and for others it doesn’t. Any questions reach out to seattleneighborhoodalliance@gmail.com
Why doesn’t the Seattle Neighborhood Alliance take specific political stances? The Seattle Neighborhood Alliance (SNA) is dedicated to being a helpful, non-political, and neutral platform. Our goal is to empower community councils so they can successfully focus on the specific issues that matter most to their communities.
We stay neutral for a few important reasons:
- Neighborhood priorities are diverse. The critical issues for one neighborhood (like managing otters near Lake Union) are often very different from the critical issues in another (which might focus on traffic).
- We value collaboration over conflict. If we were to take a specific political stance, we would inevitably alienate some members of the community. We believe our strength is in being a respectful, safe space—like a neutral academic institution. This allows Council groups to connect and collaborate on causes they choose outside of the SNA platform.
In short: we help councils build their capacity and network, then they decide how to use it.
